Wake Transition Data Behind 22-Degree Half-Angle Cones at M (Free-Stream Mach Number) Equal 9.0

Abstract

A double-pass schlieren photographic system was used to determine the location of laminar-turbulent transition in the wake of 22-degree half-angle sharp cones. The measurements were conducted at M = 9 over a range of Reynolds numbers from 15,000 to 150,000. Transition distances from 7 to 200 body diameters were observed. The data are compared with previous wake transition results.
