Parametric Radiator Theory I.

Abstract

A derivation is given for the on-axis far-field difference-frequency pressure generated in a high-amplitude primary sound field composed of two components of differing frequencies. The primary field is a simplified model of the sound radiation from a plane piston. The secondary difference-frequency pressure field is determined by integration over the primary field. The cases considered include generation in both the collimated and spherically spreading zones of the primary with absorption and saturation limits in either zone. (Author)
