Melting of a Slab Initially at the Melt Temperature.

Abstract

A simple analytic solution is derived for a slab, initially at the melt temperature, melting under surface heat-inputs prescribed in the form of any polynomial in time. The solutions for the position of solid-liquid interface and the temperature distribution of the melted liquid are obtained in series form, in which the successive coefficients are readily calculated.
