ATC/CAS Interface Simulation - Exploratory Phase.

Abstract

A dynamic simulation was conducted to explore the nature of the interaction between the Air Traffic Control (ATC) system and a collision avoidance system (CAS). The simulated ATC environment was a high density terminal area which provided for simultaneous approaches to parallel runways. The CAS threat logic was modeled after a design which was developed by a technical working group under the auspices of the Air Transport Association. Threat evaluation and maneuver output of the CAS were based on measured range, range rate and altitude difference. (Author)
