USAF Aircraft Collisions with Birds.

Abstract

The summary documents the statistical history of reports of USAF aircraft collisions with birds during the year 1968. In addition to the regular required reports of bird strikes where damage or injury was sufficient to classify the strike as an aircraft accident or incident, Operational Hazard Reports were required when an aircraft incurred a bird strike without resulting in damage or injury. There were 363 USAF aircraft collisions with birds that involved damage and 829 collisions where no damage was sustained. For comparative purposes with previous summaries and statistical history, this summary concerns primarily the bird strikes involving damage to aircraft. (Author)
