Coordinated Communications Concept for County and Local Governments.
Abstract
The 'coordinated communications concept' is delineated as including the provision of consolidated (backbone) communication links for interconnecting diverse jurisdictional and functional entities, communications (message) coordination per se, and the communication-supporting functions of management, planning, engineering, installation, and maintenance. Pressures forcing consolidation of interfunctional and interjurisdictional communications are noted as well as opposing influences. Applications of concept features, some benefits, and on-going innovative efforts of experienced concept advocates are summarized. Multichannel microwave systems used in conjunction with land mobile radio systems and combined with central computer switching, plus access to commercial common-carrier communications and to information systems, are cited as principal technical features.
