The Gamma Distribution in Downtime Analysis

Abstract

The paper discusses the application of the three and four parameter Gamma distributions to problems involving downtimes. A method for estimating parameter values from empirical data is given for the three parameter distribution. The procedure is illustrated by several examples and a computer program capable of performing the required calculations is included. In addition, the paper stresses the convenience of the Gamma distribution in downtime analysis. This distribution is especially useful in those cases in which convolutions are involved.
