On-Line Equalization of Digital Communication Channels,

Abstract

Recovery of a signal after transmission through a communications channel can be aided by an adaptive equalizer. If the channel can be modelled by a weighted tapped delay line, then an extended Kalman filter can be used to estimate both the weighting coefficients and the transmitted signal, a binary input. Experimental results on a seven-tap channel imply that the extended Kalman filter can be used as a very effective on-line equalizer. (Author)
