Survey of Slope Failures in Reservoirs,

Abstract

The U. S. Army Engineer Waterways Experiment Station is conducting a program of studies to develop analytical and empirical methods for evaluating the stability of nuclear craters. To determine the effects of initial submergence on the stability of cohesionless fallback materials, a survey was made of Corps of Engineers (CE) experience with performance of reservoir slopes during rising pools has not been an extensive cause of failure at CE dams, although where extensive talus deposits are present, instability during rising pools has been noted.
