Measurement and Analysis of Noise from Four Aircraft in Level Flight (727, KC-135, 707-320B and DC-9).

Abstract

Measurements of noise from aircraft level flyovers are presented in the form of effective perceived noise level (EPNL) as a function of slant range at the closest point of approach. Four aircraft were investigated (727, KC-135, 707-320B, and DC-9) and the effort involved acquisition of acoustical, meteorological, aircraft tracking, and aircraft operational data. Microphones were located four feet above the ground in an array normal to the flight track. (Author)
