Experimental Methods of Determining the Settling of Permanently Frozen Soils on Thawing (K Voprosu ob Eksperimentalnykh Metodakh Opredeleniya Osadki Mnogoletnemerzlykh Dispersnykh Gruntov pri Ottaivanii),

Abstract

A procedure for determining the settlings of permanently frozen dispersed soils containing ice as a component has been developed for samples of small sizes. In the studies and investigations, the settling of permanently frozen soils is conventionally determined with the aid of N.A. Tsytovich's odometer for samples ranging from 5-10 cm in diameter. The purpose of the studies described in the report is to compare the thermal settling (settlements on thawing without load) of permanently frozen soils of natural structure, such subsidence having been determined by laboratory and field methods.
