Study of DoD Automated Environmental Services Support Systems. Appendix B. Navy Environmental Support Services in 1970,

Abstract

The Appendix to IDA Study S-382 describes the Navy environmental support system as it exists in 1970, with the emphasis on the computer operations at Fleet Numerical Weather Central Monterey. Activities at FNWC are chiefly concerned with development of the basic fields and applications of weather and oceanographic elements. The utilization of the two CDC 6500s at FNWC is divided about equally between the troposphere and the oceans. The tropospheric effort may be divided fractionally between data preprocessing, analysis, prognosis, and applications in the following proportions: 0.02/0.2/0.2/0.6. Similarly, the oceanic effort is divided in the following proportions: 0.01/0.01/0.001/0.98. (Author)
