Study of DoD Automated Environmental Services Support Systems. Appendix C. Air Force / Army Environmental Support Services in 1970,

Abstract

The Appendix to IDA Study S-382 describes the Air Force/Army environmental support system as it exists in 1970, with the emphasis on the computer operations of the Air Force Global Weather Central (AFGWC), Omaha. AFGWC is the hub of a worldwide system for gathering and processing environmental data. The effort of AFGWC is principally concerned with the troposphere and the lower stratosphere, with emphasis on providing automatic realtime response to queries. The use of the four Univac 1108s at AFGWC is divided among data preprocessing, analyses, prognoses, and applications in proportions 0.01/0.3/0.2/0.5. (Author)
