Semi-Conduction and Electron Hopping in Vitreous Systems: Micro-Structure and Magnetic Properties. Dielectric and Magnetic Properties of Inhomogeneous B2O3-BaO-Fe2O3 Glass.

Abstract

The real and immaginary parts of the dielectric constant of an inhomogeneous 68B2O3-17BaO-15Fe2O3 (mole %) glass have been measured over the temperature range 300K to 77K, together with magnetisation measurements over the same temperature range. The morphology of the precipitate particles produced by heat treating at 618C has been investigated by small angle x-ray scattering and electron microscopy. Two pronounced dielectric dispersions have been found to be associated with a magnetic phase transformation in the glass. The magnetic phase transformation, apparently associated with the Morin transition of the alpha-Fe2O3 precipitates, results in a displaced magnetisation curve along the magnetisation axis on cooling below T(m) in an applied magnetic field.
