Isomeric B10C2H13(-) Ions Derived from the Direct Reduction of B10C2H12.

Abstract

The direct reduction of 1,2-B10C2H12 with sodium metal in tetrahydrofuran produced the B10C2H12(-2) ion. Treatment of B10C2H12(-2) ion with water afforded two isomeric B10C2H13 ions. Analysis of the nmr spectra of the B10C2H13(-) ions indicate that they may include a methylene type polyhedral carbon atom. Pyrolysis of ((CH3)4N)(B10C2H13) produced (CH3)3N:BH2B10C2H11 and ((CH3)4N)(7,9-B9C2H12). (Author)
