An Application of Integral Techniques to the Analysis of Gun Tube Temperature Profiles.

Abstract

The application of integral techniques for gun tube temperature profile analysis was investigated by the Research Directorate, Weapons Laboratory at Rock Island. This investigation was made to determine the conditions under which these integral techniques could be readily applied to gun tube temperature profile analysis. The heat balance integral technique was applied to the slab and to the gun tube geometries. A method of successive integral approximations, applicable when a convective boundary condition is present, was derived for both the slab and the gun tube geometries. Several example problems were solved. The range of parameters, for which an assumed parabolic temperature profile gives adequate results, was established. (Author)
