Plastic Design of a Storage Tank,

Abstract

The report is concerned with a cylindrical tank in an upright position which is filled with an incompressible liquid. The bottom of the tank is assumed to be rigid and is welded to the tank so that rotation there can occur only by formation of a hinge circle. Four different cases of top closure are considered: open, closed but not welded, welded but not sealed, and sealed. In each case tank designs are found which just cause incipient plastic flow.
