Absolute Rate Constants of Certain Radical-Molecule Reactions.

Abstract

Competition methods involving one diffusion controlled and one slower reaction have been developed and applied to the estimation of rate constants of H-atom transfer reactions of tert-butoxy and phenyl radicals. Cage effects have been determined via scavenger and viscosity studies for the thermal decompositions of t-butyl triphenylperacetate and phenylazotriphenylmethane, and the rearrangement of N-benzyl-N-methylaniline N-oxide. 'Low cost' studies of C-H hydrogen bonding have resulted in determination of formation constants for association of six donors with hexamethylphosphoramide. (Author)
