Thermophysical Properties of Solid Materials. Project Section 1B -- Thermal Expansion Measurements from 1000C to 2600C.
Abstract
Fifteen participating laboratories within the nations have contributed to the program determine experimentally the thermal expansion behaviour of selected materials above 1000C. Pure platinum, sintered Al2O3, sintered as well as arc cast tungsten, the Ta/10W alloy, and three types of polycrystalline graphites (AXM-5Q, RVD, AAQ1) each one from the same original stock have been used as sample materials. Several experimental techniques, such as twin microscopic measurements, push-rod methods and X-ray studies were applied. All experimental results have been analysed for the possible error causes, and conclusions are drawn with respect to the accuracy of experimental data obtained by the different methods as well as the suitability of the used sample materials for such measurements.
