Design, Analysis, and Construction of Precast Concrete Elements with Bamboo Reinforcement,

Abstract

The purpose of the research program was to study the feasibility of using bamboo as the reinforcing material in precast concrete elements in tropical and semi-tropical countries. The objectives were to: (1) modify current ultimate strength design and area-moment procedures, as necessary, so that ultimate moments and deflections of bamboo-reinforced concrete elements can be reasonably estimated, and (2) to determine the load-carrying capabilities and deflection limitations of precast concrete flexural elements with bamboo reinforcement under both short-term and sustained loads.
