Machine Translation in the USSR,

Abstract

The review shows that the work on MT in the USSR is very intensive and complex. But there is no laboratory which has produced research results in the form of industrial MT (even the specialized and practically oriented laboratory where fast development of MT is the only object, has not achieved its goal). All laboratories are working on the concepts, methodology, experimental testing of partial results, or on the theoretical aspects of the new description of natural languages. Nevertheless, this effort seems to form a very broad basis for future complete systems of MT and their effective application. (Author)
