Development of a Hybrid Radar Landmass Simulator: Engineering Report Number 6.

Abstract

Pennsylvania Research Associates Inc. (PRA) has assisted the Naval Training Device Center (NTDC) in the demonstration of a radar landmass simulator which displays culture data in real time. The report describes those additions, both hardware and software, which will include the effects of natural terrain. The hardware includes a matrix of 72 analog multipliers, called the MULTRIX, which evaluates a Lagrange polynomial region by region in real time. The errors in the analog implementation are shown to be composed of a random component due to the finite width of tolerance bands on the analog elements, and a fixed dc (drift) component due to uncompensated temperature changes.
