Attribution of Strategies in the Prisoner's Dilemma Game: A Symbolic Interaction Approach

Abstract

The report investigated the relation between cognitive factors and subjects' choices in a standard two choice Prisoner's Dilemma Game (150 trials). Mead's concept of the significant symbol was proposed as an alternative to the imitation hypothesis of Rapoport and Chammah. Mead's theory of social interaction was translated into a decision theoretic model to test this cognitive position.
