The Distribution of Stress Near the Tip of a Crack Which Originates at the Edge of a Circular Hole

Abstract

The author makes use of a recent development in the theory of Mellin transforms to show that the stress intensity factor and the crack energy of a crack, which originates at the edge of a circular hole in an infinite elastic solid, are related in a simple fashion to the solution of a Fredholm integral equation of the second kind.
