Bidirectional Meter Used for Volumetric Measurement of Military Standard Hydrocarbon Liquid Fuels at Bulk Storage Installations

Abstract

The report covers the testing and evaluation of a bidirectional vortex velocity meter to determine its suitability for volumetric measurement of liquid hydrocarbon fuels in conjunction with the operation of 10,000- and 25, 000-barrel hasty storage reservoirs. A Rotron, 4-in., vortex-velocity meter with a range of flow from 200- to 1250-gpm was installed at USAMERDC test facilities and fuel was pumped through the meter in forward and reverse directions of flow to determine the accuracy. The overall accuracy obtained was within the desired plus or minus-percent limit with a repeatability of plus or minus 0.1 percent of meter readings when operating within the meter linear range.
