Annual Report (7th) of the Machinability Data Center

Abstract

During this contracting period 4,246 documents were processed from which 11,316 cards were keypunched. Currently, there are 121,459 supporting records on punched cards which permit computer searches to be conducted for citation to 43,574 specific machining situations coded on MDC's documents. 807 specific inquiries were answered for 398 different organizations representing 517 individuals. Since the Center's operation began in October 1964 a total of 6,546 specific inquiries have been processed. The average number of inquiries was 67 per month at an average processing cost of $48.23 per inquiry. Statistics are presented for estimated cost savings of MDC users. Through September 30, 1971 it has been very conservatively estimated that these savings amounted to more than $55,000,000.
