Some Measurements of Surface-Wave Decay due to Underwater Turbulence.

Abstract

The decay of both wind- and paddle-generated surface capillary-gravity waves passing through a zone of turbulent water was measured. The results point to a dissipative decay mechanism that is proportional to wave amplitude squared, with a proportionality constant which varies as frequency to the fifth power. (Author)
