Effect of Auto-Correlations on the Optimum Allocations in Two Phase Stratified Sampling.

Abstract

The paper is continuation of the paper of Draper and Guttman (1968), and discusses their two phase allocation problem for situations in which auto-correlations exist in the within stratum samples. The authors assume independence between strata. By a two phase design, the authors mean design in which two independent samples are selected at two different points in time. The results of the first sample are used to improve the design of the second sample. The authors seek an optimal design, that is, a choice of second phase sample design which minimizes the future expectation of the two-sample (i.e., first and second phase samples). (Author)
