10-Micrometers Detector

Abstract

An experimental model imaging upconverter using a single-mode 5-W Nd:YAG laser as the pump source has been assembled and its imaging capability measured. A linear resolution of 112 lines along the horizontal direction was obtained. The dark noise characteristics of the GFE Varian image tubes were measured. Pump laser damage to the nonlinear proustite material was considered and the bulk absorption coefficient of proustite at 1.06 micrometer was measured. Imaging upconversion with a multimode laser pump was considered analytically.
