Investigations of Ionic Species in High Pressure Cesium Discharges.

Abstract

Ion sampling measurements have been made on active cesium plasmas and also on decaying plasmas in helium-cesium mixtures. Comparison of experimental and calculated values of I(Cs2(+))/I(Cs(+)) and I(Cs3(+))/I(Cs2(+)) as a function of normalized pressure has enabled estimates to be made of some of the ion production and loss processes. The experimental values were obtained using rf excitation to create the discharge. The calculated results were based on a simplifeid model of the cesium discharge. Ion counting techniques have been used to investigate the behavior of helium-cesium afterglows. (Author)
