Development of an Ultra-Wideband Magnetic-Tape Recorder. Phase I,

Abstract

The main efforts were concentrated on extending the upper frequency limits from the conventional 2 MHz to about 50 MHz and beyond. This report presents the results of phase I of this program, which includes HDL efforts along with those of a commercial contractor. Successful recordings were made at tape speeds about 8 times those of the fastest conventional longitudinal recorders. Tape velocities of 1,500 in/sec with a respective recording interval of 7 seconds were possible without any damage to tape or head. (Author)
