Flexure of a Beam Supported on an Elastic Foundation.

Abstract

The thesis presents a technique for analyzing the flexure of a beam supported on an elastic foundation, which does not allow normal tensile stresses at the interface, using the finite element method. The technique presented can be used in instances where the shape of the beam or foundation is irregular and where the beam or foundation is nonhomogeneous. The beam and foundation are represented by elements that have displacement functions that vary as the third-degree of Y and the fifth-degree of X. (Author)
