On the Control of a Four-Vehicle Train of Surface Effect Vehicles.

Abstract

Discusses a train of surface effect vehicles (SEV) as ideal for use as a logistic type vehicle. The investigation was motivated by the questions of how control power is distributed, which vehicles should be powered, which can be trailered, how stable the train maybe, whether the train is controllable, what the requirements are for different control configurations, and what the required measurements are to implement a control scheme. The primary objective was to determine the maximum number of trailered vehicles with only cushion power, and to investigate easily implementable control schemes for the SEV train in general.
