Internal Plasticisation of Aromatic Polyesters by Alkyl Side Chains.

Abstract

The dilatometric glass transition temperatures of the homologous series of 5-alkylresorcinol isophthalate polymers have been found to lie between 153C and a lower limiting temperature of approximately 17C. This shows that a polymer with a relatively rigid main chain may be internally plasticised by alkyl chains and provides the experimental foundation for further investigations into the synthesis of elastomers from such polymers.
