Laminar Hypersonic Interacting Boundary Layers: Subcritical Branching in the Strong Interaction Regime.

Abstract

Boundary layers interacting with a hypersonic mainstream over hot and cold wall flat plates are solved numerically using an implicit finite difference scheme. Attention is given to the details of the initialization procedure needed to allow subcritical boundary-layer development. The exact starting model is investigated in detail and applied over a representative range of wall temperatures. Solutions are obtained with either monotomically increasing or decreasing pressure levels depending on the sign of a single free constant. (Author)
