Series Representation of an Idealized Buckle Pattern of a Compressed Circular Cylindrical Shell of Finite Length.

Abstract

The actually observed buckle pattern of a thin-walled circular cylindrical shell is idealized to an inextensional pattern with sharp creases. This pattern is represented by an infinite double series containing trigonometric functions in the circumferential direction. For the axial direction more suitable sets of functions are found with the aid of Gegenbauer polynomials. (Author)
