Compressibility of Thawing Foundation Reds According to Field Investigations (Szhimaemost Ottaivayushchikh Gruntov Osnovanii po Danmym Polevykh Issledovanii),

Abstract

The values for the compressibility coefficients of thawing soils based on data from tests in odometers, without the possibility of lateral expansion, differ appreciably from their values obtained under field conditions where the experiments are conducted with a limited opportunity for lateral expansion. This difference increases with an increase in the soil's density. This was demonstrated previously for thawed soils. For practical purposes, of great significance is the establishment of accelerated techniques for determining the design compressibility factors of soils thawing under pressure without the production of laboratory or field tests, based on the data of the soils' physical parameters.
