Optimal Scanning Control of Parabolic Systems,

Abstract

The report is concerned with the optimal scanning control of a dynamical system whose behavior is described by a second-order parabolic differential equation. The control is given under the form of a single pointwise control moving along a trajectory in the interior of the system's spatial domain or on the boundary. The scanning movement of the control is described by the solution of a set of ordinary differential equations. The existence of optimal solutions for the problem involving the minimization of a quadratic cost functional is established. Also, certain necessary conditions for optimality are given in the form of a nonlinear two-point boundary-value problem which, under additional conditions, admists a unique solution. Sufficient conditions for stability of the distributed system with a prescribed scanning feedback control are established, and a special one-dimensional optimal control problem is considered.
