Laser Diode Pumped F-Center Maser.

Abstract

The feasibility of using F centers in potassium iodide as the paramagnetic material for an optically pumped maser was quantitatively studied. The work included selective pumping experiments with laser diodes, methods for producing F centers in KI, measurement of ground state properties and pumping characteristics, and a general evaluation of the suitability of F centers in KI for use in traveling wave masers.
