Introduction to the Mechanics of Reinforced Polymers,

Abstract

The study includes the deformation rules for hard polymers which are used as binders, the generation, for such polymers of a complete system of equations and development of methods for the solution of these equations, and the establishment of the areas of applicability of the existing methods related to the theory of resilience, pliability, and material deformation resistance, as applied to the binders. Also discussed is the purely mechanical study of joint deformation related to the reinforcing materials and to the polymers of the binder; the development of methods for the determination of characteristics related to the reinforced polymers on the basis of the properties of their components. Although the report presents some examples of the theory's application to the solution of some concrete problems, the main purpose is to lay the foundation for coupling equations suggested for the description of the mechanical behavior of the binders and reinforced plastic materials, and also to generate the system of equations describing the mechanics of the polymer medium.
