On the Removal of Singularities in Multiple Integrals by Partial Substitution,

Abstract

Standard quadrature methods for multiple integrals cannot take into account singularities of the integrand. Efficient numerical integration of convergent improper integrals requires essentially a replacement of the given integral by an equivalent proper integral. A method for such replacement, which makes use of a theorem by Ostrowski, is described and applied to an example that arose in lattice dynamics. (Author)
