Line-of-Sight Integration of Density Distribution for Discrete Chemical Releases Diffusing in a Constant Shear Flow.

Abstract

The analytic expression for the number density of an initially spherical gaussian puff diffusing in a constant shear flow is integrated along an arbitrary line of sight. It is shown that the sum of the projected gaussian half-widths squared is a cubic function of the time, with coefficients that depend on the geometry, the initial puff radius, the wind shear components, and the ambient diffusion coefficient. This result establishes the basis for determining these parameters from experimental data by least-squares techniques. (Author)
