Investigation of a Proprietary Chemical Admixture for Concrete.
Abstract
A chemical admixture described by its manufacturer as being useful in preventing strength losses in concrete during exposure to freezing temperatures was investigated. Analysis of the admixture showed it to contain approximately 28.5 percent solids and 71.5 percent volatile material, mainly water. The solids appeared to be principally calcium chloride (CaCl2). Samples containing calcium chloride as an admixture generally developed strengths similar to those of samples containing the proprietary admixture when stored under equal regimes. (Author)
