An Evaluation of the Routine Processing of Events at NORSAR during the Time Period May-October 1971.

Abstract

The routinely analyzed NORSAR data from the first 6 months of regular operation, May-October 1971, has been evaluated. In this period, about 8 events per day have been reported from the 30 degrees-90 degrees distance interval. This gives a 90% cumulative reporting threshold of about 4.1 NORSAR magnitudes, which equivalates about 4.3 NOAA magnitudes. The large variations in the seismic background noise cause large variations in the distribution of reported events per time unit. (Author)
