The Vortex Core Jet Near the Point of Generation.

Abstract

Near the point of generation of a wing tip vortex the axial velocity in the vortex core can be considerably greater than the free stream velocity. The present analysis describes the velocity field under these circumstances and shows that a self-similar solution exists that satisfies all the boundary conditions. The resulting two-point boundary value problem is solved on a digital computer and shows qualitative agreement with experiments. (Author)
