Augmented Transition Networks as Psychological Models of Sentence Comprehension,

Abstract

The paper describes the operation of an augmented recursive transition network parser and demonstrates the natural way in which perceptual strategies, based on the results of psycholinguistic experimentation, can be represented in the transition network grammatical notation. Several illustrative networks are given, and it is argued that such grammars are empirically justified and conceptually productive models of the psychological processes of sentence comprehension.
