An Interrogator-Responder System for Time-Variable Interrogation Codes (systeme Interrogateur-Repondeur pour des Codes d'Interrogation se Modifiant en Fonction du Temps).

Abstract

In identification systems such as secondary radar systems, or remote control or telemetering systems, the enemy may put received or intercepted interrogation and/or response signals to a different use, for the purpose of jamming. The invention concerns an interrogator-responder system for time-variable interrogation codes, which are transmitted consecutively in time by an interrogator device and to which responses are given by one or more responder devices familiar with the time-variable interrogator program, using response codes which are also time-variable and are associated with the interrogation code by a predetermined relation, a time standard being provided in the interrogator-responder device to control the code sequence. The purpose of this invention is to reduce possible disturbance by an enemy, such as simulation or transmission of false response signals, jamming of the interrogator system, and the possibility of location by range finding.
