One Method of Determining the Force and Coefficient of Sliding Friction,

Abstract

A method is analyzed for determining the forces and coefficients of friction based on indirect methods of measurement which does not require the assumption that the forces and coefficient of friction are independent of friction speed. The method is based on the effect of apparent conversion of dry friction to viscous friction. Formulas are concluded which provide a theoretical basis for the experimental determination of the forces of dry friction by this method. The method can be used for either linear or rotating friction.
