Development of Input/Output Interface for the D-17B Computer.

Abstract

A synchronous serial-binary D-17B Computer, removed from a surplus Minuteman I missile, was added to the facilities of the Digital Engineering Laboratory at the Air Force Institute of Technology, WPAFB, Ohio. This report briefly describes the computer and presents information on the design and construction of interface circuits and controls for operation of a teletypewriter, a photoelectric paper tape reader and a high speed paper tape punch with the computer. Integrated circuit logic elements and wire wrapping techniques are used extensively. The resulting system enables digital engineering students to program the computer and to use it for laboratory experiments and research projects. (Author)
