Homogeneous Nucleation in Steam Nozzle Condensation,

Abstract

Comparison of results on the onset of condensation by homogeneous nucleation of water vapor in an inert gas or pure steam has revealed differences on the nucleation rate. Pure steam condenses less rapidly than the water vapor in moist air. Calculations are presented that rationalize one possible contribution to this discrepancy. The calculations demonstrate that pure steam condensation just as that of water vapor appears to be in reasonable agreement with the so-called classical theory of nucleation. (Author)
